Church History

July, 1956 a two-week tent revival was held in the field next door to our present location hosted by members of First Baptist Church Hendersonville. Following this event, First Baptist formed the mission, which later became known as Holiday Heights Baptist Church. There were about 30 charter members, and they met in neighborhood homes. In November 1956, the Nashville Baptist
ASSOcIatIon brought a camp building trom one ot their campsites.

This became the first home of what was known as Rockland Baptist
Mission. Bro. Willis Horton was called as the first Pastor. in 1959 we grew from the camp building into the basement structure built by the members of the church and the neighborhood. In these early years of the church the ringing of the Church Bell was then and still is today a call to worship for this community. The Church Bell was donated by a tew men in the community who traded a pig for
the bell. In 1968 we grew and built the 1st section above the basement, which is part of the sanctuary we worship in today. In 1971, what was known as the Rockland baptist Mission was constituted as a church and renamed, Holiday Heights Baptist Church. In 1978 we expanded the sanctuary and the downstairs on the right side of the building. In 1985, we completed the left side of the sanctuary and the paved
parking lot. God blessed the mission that Holiday Heights Baptist Church was built upon and the hands and feet of the members and pastors throughout the years that have sought His direction and promise to
be a Beacon of Light for Him in this “Little Church on The Hill”. JoIn us as Holiday Heights baptist church continues to reach new heights for Jesus as God continues to bless this “Little Church on
the Hill”

Founding Story

It began with a tent, a field, and the Holy Spirit.

In July 1956, members of First Baptist Church Hendersonville hosted a two-week tent revival in the field next door to where our church stands today. What started as a season of worship became something more — out of that revival, First Baptist formed a mission that would eventually grow into Holiday Heights Baptist Church.

With roughly 30 charter members, the congregation began meeting in neighborhood homes, bound together by faith and community. Then in November 1956, the Nashville Baptist Association donated a camp building from one of their campsites, giving the newly formed Rockland Baptist Mission its first true home. Brother Willis Horton was called to serve as the church’s first pastor.

By 1959, the growing congregation outgrew that humble camp building. Together — church members and neighbors side by side — they built the basement structure that would become the next chapter of their shared story. In those early years, the ringing of the church bell became the heartbeat of the community. That bell, donated by a few men in the neighborhood who traded a pig to obtain it, still calls this community to worship today.

Growth continued through the years. In 1968, the first section above the basement was constructed — now part of the very sanctuary where we gather to worship. In 1971, the congregation was formally constituted as a church and renamed Holiday Heights Baptist Church. The sanctuary expanded again in 1978, extending to the right side of the building, and in 1985 the left side was completed along with the paved parking lot.

From a tent revival in a neighboring field to a fully constituted church rooted in this community — every beam, every brick, and every bell toll reflects the faithfulness of the members, pastors, and neighbors who gave their hands, their resources, and their hearts to build something lasting.

God blessed the mission Holiday Heights was built upon. And He continues to bless this Little Church on The Hill as we reach new heights for Jesus — a beacon of light, then, now, and for generations to come.
